چکیده

(to appear in Current Science) In the spirit of the Newtonian theory, we characterize spherically symmetric empty space in general relativity in terms of energy density measured by a static observer and convergence density experienced by null and timelike congruences. It turns out that space surrounding a static particle is entirely specified by vanishing of energy and null convergence density. The electrograv-dual to this condition would be vanishing of timelike and null convergence density which gives the dual-vacuum solution representing a Schwarzschild black hole with global monopole charge or with cloud of string dust. Here the duality is defined by interchange of active and passive electric parts of the Riemann curvature, which amounts to interchange of the Ricci and Einstein tensors. This effective characterization of stationary vacuum works for the Schwarzschild and NUT solutions. The most remarkable feature of the effective characterization of empty space is that it leads to new dual spaces and the method can also be applied to lower and higher dimensions. An Isoperimetric Comparison Theorem for Schwarzschild Space and Other Manifolds

We give a very general isoperimetric comparison theorem which, as an important special case, gives hypotheses under which the spherically symmetric (n− 1)-spheres of a spherically symmetric n-manifold are isoperimetric hypersurfaces, meaning that they minimize (n − 1)-dimensional area among hypersurfaces enclosing the same n-volume. This result greatly generalizes the result of Bray (Ph.D. thes...

Spherically Symmetric Solutions in a New Braneworld Massive Gravity Theory

In this paper, a combination of the braneworld scenario and covariant de Rham-Gabadadze-Tolley (dRGT) massive Gravity theory is proposed. In this setup, the five-dimensional bulk graviton is considered to be massive. The five dimensional nonlinear ghost-free massive gravity theory affects the 3-brane dynamics and the gravitational potential on the brane. Following the solutions with spherical s...

Spherically symmetric black holes in minimally modified self-dual gravity

We discuss spherically symmetric black holes in the modified self-dual theory of gravity recently studied by Krasnov, obtained adding a Weyl-curvature dependent ‘cosmological term’ to the Plebanski lagrangian for general relativity. This type of modified gravity admits two different types of singularities: one is a true singularity for the theory where the fundamental fields of the theory, as w...

Some Static Isotropic Perfect Fluid Spheres in General Relativity

In the present article, a new class of solutions of Einstein field equations is investigated for a spherically symmetric space-time when the source of gravitation is a perfect fluid. All the solutions have been derived by making some suitable arrangements in the field equations. The solutions so obtained have been seen to describe Schwarzschild interior solutions. Most of the solutions are subj...

The Spherical Symmetry of Static Stellar Systems in General Relativity

Abstract. A conjecture of many years standing in General Relativity is that static stellar models, under physically reasonable assumptions, must be spherically symmetric. Despite some real progress in the last eighteen years (Beig and Simon, Masood-ul-Alam) a proof of the conjecture, in its full generality, has remained elusive. We consider asymptotically flat, perfect fluid, static stellar spa...
